What is a .wlmp file?

A .wlmp file is a Windows Live Movie Maker project file — an XML document that describes your video timeline, including which clips to use, where to trim them, and what transitions to apply.

Windows Movie Maker was discontinued in 2017. Since then, millions of users have been unable to open or export their old projects. Every other "converter" online just renames the file — we actually parse the XML and rebuild your video.

Frequently asked questions

What files do I need to include in the ZIP?
Include your .wlmp project file and every video, image, and audio file that the project references. If a file is missing, we'll tell you exactly which one and skip that clip rather than failing the whole conversion.
What effects and transitions are supported?
Basic cuts, trims, and clip ordering are fully supported. Common effects like grayscale, sepia, and brightness are approximated. Complex Windows Movie Maker-specific effects will be noted as warnings and skipped gracefully.
How long does conversion take?
A 5-minute project typically takes 3–10 minutes. Longer projects run in the background — you can close the tab and return using your job link. The job stays active for 48 hours.
Is my video data private?
Yes. Your uploaded files are stored securely in encrypted cloud storage and automatically deleted 48 hours after your job completes. We do not view, share, or retain your video content.
What media formats are supported?
Source media: MP4, AVI, WMV, MOV, MKV, MPEG, and common image formats (JPG, PNG, BMP, GIF). Audio: MP3, WAV, WMA, AAC. Output is always H.264 MP4. Formats not supported by FFmpeg will be skipped with a warning.
What if the conversion fails?
We provide clear error messages explaining exactly what went wrong — missing files, unsupported formats, or corrupt project XML. You won't be charged if the conversion fails.
